RiffTrax Live Online Christmas Show and More

There’s a bunch of news from RiffTrax:

Topping the news is:

The first RiffTrax Live Online show will hit the net Thursday, Dec. 16, at 9 p.m. Eastern/6 p.m. Pacific. The evening begins with the guys riffing a brand new Christmas themed short – that’ll be free for everybody. That will be followed by a riff of a Christmas movie that they haven’t announced yet — but to watch that you’ll have to buy a ticket.

They will announce the name of the Christmas movie Friday, Dec. 3, at 4 p.m. Eastern, 1 p.m. Pacific, and show for a free preview. For 99 cents you can watch the world premiere of a new RiffTrax short online, and get a downloadable copy of the short.

Tickets will go on sale for the Dec. 16th show at that time.

Go here to get a ticket to the preview event.

But, wait, there’s more!

As previously announced, the RiffTrax for “Twilight: Eclipse” also goes on sale Friday, Dec. 3.

Plus, a new short was released today:

Featuring Mr. B Natural’s cousins the Calendar Wonder Twins.

Watch a free sample and download it here.

And by the way, there are a bunch of RiffTrax DVDs on sale for DEEP discounts at, guess where?

I wish they were showing it at a theater. I can’t watch anything on my computer.

Interesting, it will be online and they still didn’t make it a weekend show.

    Anyhoo can’t wait.

I guess it’s cheaper to produce via the web as appossed to hooking up 400 plus theaters with a live feed and thousands of paid seats. Hope it works. I know it all depend on the money to “stay in business” I just don’t want feel so pushed to the fringes as a fan.

Don’t forget that the guys originally started out by trying to do online streaming, and often suffered from technical glitches. I wonder if they have figured out what the problems were and now trying to do more of these streaming shows with theaters being reserved for “big” events.

My complaint is with the time! 4pm on a Friday??? I don’t know about the rest of you, but I don’t get home from work until 6pm.

Is it possible to have a later encore time?

  6. The Christmas show is at 9 eastern/6pacific. The announcement is during the work day, but we figured it would be short enough that people would be able to duck away for a few minutes to watch it at work. We won’t tell…

So is this show actually “live” as in they are riffing as we listen (and before a guffawing audience?) or will the riffing have been recorded previously (as in before it is streamed to we paying viewers)?

  8. I’m not sure where “live” leaves room for interpretation, but we will be performing, recording, and broadcasting it to you live as it happens, just like the two shows we did this summer

I don’t want to be pessimistic – I really don’t – but my inner Criswell foresees technical difficulties and widespread bitching from fans. Then again, Criswell’s predictions were almost always wrong…

I hope my crummy interweb holds out for this. I also hope to inherit a fortune from a wealthy relative I never knew existed. I presume we’ll be able to purchase a download of the show at a later date?

In other news, I’m ashamed that I got the Antoine Dodson reference. I try so hard to remain blissfully unaware of that sort of thing.

“My Inner Criswell” is a good name for an album title.

  12. @9 We’ve been working our butts off upgrading and testing our streaming capabilities over the past 5 months specifically to avoid those Criswell predictions. We wouldn’t be doing the show if we weren’t 100% confident with the setup. We’ve learned from past issues and are ready to bring you guys something awesome.

  13. Well, as Leo D. said one time, “Include me out”.

As much as I want to support everything RT does (and except for the mainstream riffs, I have bought all they have released and attended all shows) this just doesn’t make any sense to me. Maybe it’s because I’m old, but the whole point of a “live” event is to enjoy it with others.

Other than my wife and I there aren’t any other MST3K fans I know, so seeing it in a theater was the only way I could enjoy it with other fans. But if it’s just my wife and I, we’d much rather watch in the comfort of our bedroom (which ain’t rigged up to do this).

Here’s hoping whatever movie they do they release to buy so my wife and I can watch it as God intended, on my media streamer (like I watch all the other RT stuff I buy). And if they ever do another show in a theater, we’ll be there as well.

Since you mentioned the DD sale here, I should point out that I was disappointed to find that MST3K sets aren’t included (I did order a few Rifftrax discs). But…

Borders is having a one day 50% off coupon sale today, and I was able to pick up set XIX with the Gypsy figure for $37, which is about $12 less than Amazon and Deep Discount are selling it for.

Hopefully sharing a link to the coupon isn’t against the rules:

I played drums for ‘My Inner Criswell’ back in the 70’s…We released 2 LP’s then broke up.

I’d like to see a ‘live’ event every month from Rifftrax….Maybe a Friday night ‘Creature Feature’ or some B-Movie….or a cavalcade of shorts.

Anyway…I can’t wait to find out what movie you guys are riffing!

Any chance of Rifftrax doing any John Cena movies? Those suck so bad they just beg to be ripped apart. Especially 12 Rounds.

I’m a little shocked at the low amount of comments on this Christmas show news. Is this a sign of lack of intrest? Everyone is excited about the Shout news (as am I) but that is still a little ways off.

Has WWE made any movies that don’t suck, regardless as to who stars in them?

  18. Laura says:

The Condemned didn’t suck. That’s the only WWE-produced movie I will watch. My boyfriend H-A-T-E-S Stone Cold and he actually likes that movie also. Which is very frightening.

Oh..I really hope they aren’t going to replace the “in the theater” live events with streaming “live” events. I love taking the family to see the RiffTrax shows at our local theater and watching with a group of fans.

Hey I also wanted to confirm – does this mean the end of the Rifftrax Live theater shows? I hope not. They were really fun.
