Just got back for the 9:30 show at NJPAC. Great show!

Gruber was away, so Josh handled the MC duties, with some funny bits from himself, Frank (featuring his Christmas song “Santa’s Crystal Meth Lab”), Trace & Mary Jo (reading from Trace’s book) and Joel (answering audience questions and performing a cool magic trick). Just before the movie, Joel & Josh performed the MST theme song, with a nice addition to the opening lyrics.

The movie, “Rattlers”, was a staggeringly inept “nature’s revenge” flick, with one of the most unlikable & ineffectual “heroes” I’d ever seen (played by the screaming guy with the burned hand from “Being from Another Planet”). There were some slow spots in the riffing, but the audience was already laughing at this terrible movie. On the whole, though, the riffing was great, with some MST callbacks thrown in.

Again, great show! Looking forward to the DVD release.

  3. I went to both shows………..and got the same seat! As was mentioned, the cast did some pre-show comedy bits as Gruber wasn’t there. Josh did a great version of Elvis Costello’s “Accidents Will Happen” in his bit. Both shows were great. I have the “Oozing Skull” studio DVD but they came up with some new riffs. “Rattlers” I did not see before and it was great! Mary Jo did well despite battling a cold. I did go to both meet & greets and I had them sign an 8X10 picture that I took of my MST3K/CT/Film Crew/Rifftrax DVD collection with the three Bots from the Shout DVD sets. Some of them signed AWAY from the Rifftrax part of the pic but Frank was happy to ink over their DVD’s! Trace also signed his new book which I bought at the show. Oh, during the second meet & greet, a family went over with their little girl and Joel did a few little magic tricks for her. Class act!

I brought two non-MSTie (but willing to be educated) friends to “Rattlers” and we had a great time. I endorse everything Kenneth and Marcus V already said.

Ooh, “Rattlers” is a sad, sad excuse for a movie. Perfect.

The Victoria Theater at the Newark PAC was a fantastic venue with great acoustics and seating. In case the word “Newark” scares you, they’ve located the PAC and arranged cops and parking so as to eliminate any concerns. Great destination.

There is an old saying “the right people will get it”. The flip side of that is “the right people will get us.” I swear these are some the best and most talented people you will ever meet. I can not wait until I can shake their hands give them all a heartfelt thank you and commend them on their great work in comedy.

Saw the 9:30 show and it was just wonderful. I was hoping to see the CT gang do their own warm-up someday and was rewarded with an entertaining pre-show collection of gags, songs and magic. The movie started slowly, but about 10-15 minutes in, the crew found their rhythm and from then on relentlessly slashed the movie to little pieces.

Considering that what the CT crew does is not an improvisatory art, it’s amazing how much freshness and energy seeing them do it live with a large laughing crowd adds to the experience. This was my second live CT show and it’s some of the most fun you can have at a night out at the theater.

I wish more people would add to this, I love reading how people liked the shows and even more when people post pictures.

I wish I could go to one of these. Unfortunately, I don’t think the CT gang will make a stop over here in The Netherlands anytime soon. :-)

I don’t think they are likely going to bring the CT LIVE experience down to southern Virginia anytime soon either. So I’ll just keep buying the DVDs! :)
