Would they please finally announce the films for the Milwaukee shows? I can only afford go to one, and I want to know the films so I don’t have to make a blind gamble with my $35. I don’t see why it has to be such a mystery.

I’m guessing the CT DVD releases are pretty much dead. Shame.

  3. Another Samson movie? Cool. And RATTLERS, that’s about killer snakes.

#3 – It’s not the Mexican wrestler, if that’s what you’re thinking. It’s a sword and sandal movie.

I feel the same way as Cronkite Moonshot (#1) with regards to the Jersey shows. If they are showing Rattlers, then I will probably make the trip. But if it is Samson (which I have already seen on NYEve in 2K9), then I can safely pass.

Maybe a new dvd will come out around the beginning of Feb.? I thought WAR OF THE INSECTS would come out a few days before the show on the 29th,but since they’re doing it,I guess we’ll have to wait and see for next month.I doubt they’re going to stop releasing dvd’s because I don’t think they would be making that much from the live shows anyway.I’m not giving up yet!!

@Cronkite Moonshot: The Friday show in Milwaukee is “East Meets Watts” and Saturday is “Rattlers”.

The CT website gives a list of all the live show choices (under FAQ/Live shows).

MS, this is what Joel said in a 12/30/10 interview:

“You just keep working it until you’re happy. And then once you’re happy we’ll kind of look at all — Rattlers is our third movie [that hasn’t been taped], so it’s likely at a certain point we’ll go, ‘Let’s record these now and make them into DVDs.'” [article link]

So there’s no reason to think they’ve stopped producing DVDs.

Thanks so much vplaid. I’ve been looking everywhere I could think of for that information since they announced the shows, but to no avail. They should probably think about putting that kind of information under the “Live Tour” button that is on their web sites front page, because… um, it would make perfect sense to have it there, and 99% of people would probably go looking for it there in the first place.

Anyway I’m glad I know now because even though I do like “East Meets Watts” I have the DVD, and would rather go see them do something I haven’t seen yet. So Rattlers it is. I would have been very disappointed to take the chance on the 18th show and see something I already have on DVD only to find out they did something totally new the next night.

What will become of Chicago? Are we never to see CT again? Was the closing of the Lake Shore Theater the true nail in the coffin? Should I just make a road trip to Milwaukee to see them and do a one-night in Wisconsin trip?

  17. “there’s no reason to think they’ve stopped producing DVDs.”

But, unfortunately, there *is* reason to think they’ll stop producing proper studio episodes. While I’m glad they enjoy touring, they never come here (or anywhere near enough to me to see them), so that’s meaningless to me. And I don’t really enjoy live recordings, be it music, theater or riffing. (I’ve seen the CTs and own the Rifftrax ones. They don’t get watched.)

I even skipped buying the most recent DVDs when they had them on sale. Unless they finally come to town, I’ll probably wait until a proper DVD shows up before giving them any more of my money.

  18. jere7my says:

Oh, I agree — if you don’t like the product they’re putting out, then there’s no reason to give them any of your money. That said, The Alien Factor was one of the funniest MST3K/CT episodes I’ve ever seen, and I’ve only seen it via live DVD, so I’m happy with whatever format they want to work in. (Stop Making Sense is one of my favorite movies, too — I just like live recordings.) I liked the clean visual style and backstory of the studio DVDs, but I can also see greater levels of energy and engagement in the live DVDs — the studio episodes had a tendency toward flat delivery.

  19. Gary Bowden says:

It doesn’t matter if they put out live dvd’s or studio dvd’s,I’m going to by them because I’m a fan.I could care less about the backstory of the studio dvd’s because it’s not important for me to enjoy or not enjoy the riffing. If you like the silhouettes and a backstory, then stick with MST3K.Having watched the live dvd’s,which are far superior than the studio ones,I rarely watch the studio versions. The studio dvd’s are funny in parts and the skits are so so,it’s kind of like watching Season 1 or 2 of MST3K.The live dvd’s are more loose, more fun and more hysterical.Having said all of that,I look forward to each new release and get impatient(and frustrated)when a new one isn’t released when I expect it to,but I remain faithful and optimistic because I know they’ll release one sometime. If CT isn’t touring anywhere near someone, then ask your local theater to have them, like CT stated on their Facebook page or their website. They’ve never toured anywhere near me(for I live in Arkansas and it wouldn’t make sense for them to tour here anyway, since there’s probably not that many MSTies here and they wouldn’t make any money),but I did manage to drive to Dallas to see them in 2009.Worth every penny,I might add..Let’s try and remain optimistic and loyal and know that CT won’t forget the fans that can’t make it to their shows and that they’ll release new dvd’s…whew.I’m pooped..

    Well said Gary!
Also, in case the CT performers ever glance at this site… any chance at all you’ll ever show up in Toronto? Or even better, Ottawa? I know, I know, it’s cold, but you guys live in the midwest, right?

I like the live DVDs (enough that I’ll keep buying them, certainly), but I’d love to see more studio DVDs. I like the plot they created; plus, I enjoy the occasional host segment, which you don’t get with the live shows (I loved “Which Thing Won’t Kill You”, esp. Josh saying that if he dies, Frank can have his lines. Hee).
