Nice little interview. BUT…five years, does that mean they will just stop? I think they are doing great. While I have not seen a show yet I hope to go someday. Please don’t quit.
Yeah! Five years? And hasn’t it already been two or three?
I’ve seen him give the “five years”[1] figure before. It was in the context of the five years of MST3k he “missed” after leaving the show…
[1] “Stuck on my eyes, we got five years…”
I was hoping that after five years there would be 50 DVDs. :-(
I think it’s clear the cast aren’t afraid to walk away from an act even at the height of its popularity- Joel & Frank left right in the middle of the series, and Trace didn’t come back for SciFi. People might disagree, but that tendency kept the show fresh so it never jumped the shark. Still, I hope they have the most productive “at least five years” possible.
I got the feeling he meant that they’d fully commit for 5 years and then look around and see how everything was going. I have no idea if they consider themselves “successful” or not – the DVDs seem to have stopped, and I don’t know if they’re expanding their audience, despite doing excellent live shows. I don’t think he was mentioning it as an “end date”.
Yeah, all we can do is keep supporting them, buying the dvds when they come out, and going to the live shows. If we show them the audience is still out here, they’ll be more likely to continue. One would hope.
