Posted by Sampo, on February 9th, 2019  Sometimes we hear of somebody’s passing several weeks after it happened, because they are not part of the Hollywood scene anymore. Such is the case with Sally Fraser, who played Joan Nelson in the movie in episode 311- IT CONQUERED THE WORLD, Joyce Manning in the movie in episode 319- WAR OF THE COLOSSAL BEAST and Helen Kingman in the movie in episode 313- EARTH VS. THE SPIDER. She died January 13 in Harrison, Idaho. She was 86.

And although he was mentioned only in passing during a host segment in episode 1002- THE GIRL IN GOLD BOOTS, we should note the passing former Vikings quarterback Wade Wilson. He was 60.

Sometimes a film shown on MST3K will feature a performer of some notability or notoriety, but the riffing fails to make mention. Usually this is because the person in question wasn’t immediately recognizable. On occasion (such as with Robert Reed in Bloodlust!), they deliberately choose to hold back. So what riffs would you retroactively add in such situations? Mine is for Hamlet when the title character enthusiastically greets Horatio, to which I would append a, “You magnificent bastard!”
Mine would be in episode 409- INDESTRUCTIBLE MAN, which has Lon Chaney in BOTH the movie and the short. I feel that deserved a menton.

In the “Beast of Yucca Flats,’ Mike accuses para-deputy Jim Archer of stealing the movie. I would argue that the mom and dad of yucca flats were the guilty party. but it had me wondering, who else in MST’d history was guilty of stealing a scene or movie when no one was looking. Or caring.

Dick Miller, a prolific screen actor perhaps best known for his role as Murray Futterman in 1984’s “Gremlins,” has died. He was 90. Miller worked frequently for Roger Corman, and MSTies will remember his appearances in three Corman movies, episodes 311- IT CONQUERED THE WORLD, 511- GUNSLINGER and 806- THE UNDEAD.
