RIP Carol Channing

Rancho Mirage, Calif.–Carol Channing, whose incandescent performances –as the gold-digging Lorelei Lee in “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” and the matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi in “Hello, Dolly!” — made her a Broadway legend, died Jan. 15 at her home here, of natural causes. She was 97.

MSTies will recall that Mike, attempting to survive the movie in episode 619- RED ZONE CUBA, became Carol Channing for a short time. It didn’t help.

The New York Times has the story.

Thanks to Timmy for the heads up.

Weekend Discussion Thread: “But There Was No…”

Alert regular Perry suggests…

The recent Gatwick drone scare. After all the fuss, it might turn out that there was no drone. What other story could be neatly wrapped up with an ending a-go-go?

Let’s skip the obvious one.

But there was no fat barkeep…

Keep those WDT suggestions coming!

Help Put Tom & Crow in the Puppetry Arts Museum

There is campaign to get both a Tom Servo & a Crow puppet inducted into the Atlanta, Georgia-based Center for Puppetry Arts museum.

The campaign ends Friday, Jan. 11, with a goal of $10,000. Contributions are tax deductible to an extent, and are being matched. At this writing they have about $1,000 to go.

A special Gold Tom Servo signed by the MST3K cast is being auctioned by The Center for Puppetry Arts as well.

On January 20th, Joel will be in Atlanta at the Center for the MST3K Puppet unveiling. He will also do a powerpoint about his lifelong obsession with ventriloquist dummies and their impact on MST3K. Get tickets for that here.
