Lou Reed, RIP

lou reed

Southampton, N.Y.–Rock ‘n’ roll legend Lou Reed, who gave the world the phrase “Satellite of Love,” died Sunday, Oct. 27, at his home here, of liver disease. He was 71. “Satellite of Love” was actually sung by Joel and the bots in episode K08- GAMERA VS. GUIRON, and also at live shows.

Weekend Discussion Thread: Difficult Listening

The opposite of easy listening, ya see.

Suggest a three-song set of tunes from MSTed movies that would be the most punishing, a set that would ruin the evening of anyone who heard it.

I’m gonna go with:

1. The baby piano music from “Robot Monster”
2. The dah-duh-duh-duh-DAH-duh theme from “Beginning of the End” and
3. The Ukranian National Anthem from “Racket Girls.”

What’s your set?

Thanks to Christopher Carey, who had a slightly different suggestion, but whose idea I springboarded off of.
Please keep those suggestions coming!

Joel to do Reddit “AMA”

In celebration of the 25th Anniversary of MST3K, Joel will be doing a Reddit AMA on Tuesday, Nov. 26, from 4-6 p.m. ET.

If you know what that means, you know what to do.

RiffTrax Live: Your Thoughts?

BXb2vDmCUAAnEz5

Well, I have “laugh stomach” and that’s always a good sign.

First of all, BIG NEWS at the beginning of the show, a Christmas RiffTrax Live Dec. 5, featuring, get this, “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians”! Can there BE a THIRD set of jokes to be made about this movie? The RiffTrax guys clearly think so, and I applaud what strikes me as a pretty bold choice.

As for the show itself, they got things rolling with the Norman short and people were already primed by the time they started the movie. As I like to do, I recently watched the previous “three riffers” edition and I would guess that about 80 percent of the jokes were new, and there were more overall. I thought they did a great job.

My theater near Scranton was about a third to a quarter full but they seemed to be enjoying it.

UPDATE: Kevin & Bill to Appear on NPR’s ‘Ask Me Another.’

UPDATE: That episode can now be heard here.

(Thanks to “Bookworm” for the heads up.)

My local NPR affiliate doesn’t run it, so I was unaware of this show called “Ask Me Another” until today. Anyway, the host, comedian Ophira Eisenberg, tweeted today that Bill and Kevin will be on the next show.
