Weekend Discussion Thread: Overrated/Underrated Episodes

A number of times during episode guide threads, I have mentioned what Erhardt dubbed “Sampo’s Theorem.” For anybody that missed it, it goes: “For every MSTie who thinks a given episode is the worst thing they’ve ever done, there is another who considers it their finest hour.”

Alert reader David, playing off Sampo’s Theorem, writes:

Came up with this while reading the recent 904 – Werewolf postings. Most people rated it a 5 in their posts, but a select few rated it as low as a 3, admitting that they “like it but just don’t get all the love for it.” I think we all have that feeling about some episode that everyone else seems to adore.
My response: “OK, if you don’t think THIS is a 5 star episode, then what is?”
Question: What’s an episode you consider overrated, and maybe suggest a neglected favorite that you prefer.

For overrated, I’m going to go with 303- POD PEOPLE. People just swoon over this episode. It puts me to sleep. (Great segments, though.)
For underrated, I have to go with 610- THE VIOLENT YEARS, an all-time fave that I don’t think gets the love it should.

Web Comic Mention

Heh. That would be a mixed blessing, I would think.

Joel Invites You to Twenty Wonder (Updated with more info)

Update: I’m not quite sure where she grabbed this from but this blogger has posted what appears to be a detailed press release with a LOT more information about this weekend’s event.

We’ve received this message from Joel Hodgson:

Greetings friends and fans of MST3K and Cinematic Titanic!

Just wanted to alert you to an event that is happening next Saturday in the Los Angeles area called “Twentywonder”. When we worked together, my brother Jim and I started an almost-annual event called Superball. We produced eight of these events, which we considered a sort of “one night world’s fair” with music, comedy, art, science and food all rolled into a party that hosted over 1,500 guests.

Since then, Jim has become a director of the Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles. He’s currently mounting a really incredible event that is similar to the Superball happenings, but has an actual purpose beyond simply a good time: Helping to improve the quality of life for those living with Down Syndrome.

If you are in the Los Angeles area on March 6th, I would like to personally invite you to the event. I think you’ll love it. Also, as you may already know, Cinematic Titanic will be performing. We’re doing a “greatest riffs” performance that features eight of our funniest films all crammed into a twenty minute set. Hope you can make it!

Tickets are available at http://www.twentywonder.org.
