Trace To Make Convention Appearance

Trace Beaulieu has been added to CONvergence, which takes place over 4th of July weekend in Minneapolis. This is Convergence’s 10-year anniversary. Here’s the announcement.

One other note: Organizers tell us that the convention’s host hotel, the Sheraton Bloomington (formerly called the Radisson South, the scene of 1994’s ExpoFest-a-rama) is sold-out, but rooms are available at the nearby Sofitel across the parking lot.

Frank and Josh Interview

Frank and Josh are, apparently, interviewed in the first issue of a new magazine called PiQ. In the piece, called “The Line Between Camp and Crap” they talk about their favorite bad movies.

Thanks to Jenny for the heads up!

Joel Interview in IFC.com

Check it out here.

Joel to appear in “The Vampira Show”

The Steve Allen Theater, 4773 Hollywood Blvd. in Los Angeles (where Cartoon Dump regularly plays), will hold a benefit for Maila Nurmi, aka Vampira, the first TV horror host and co-star of the immortal “Plan 9 from Outer Space,” who died Jan. 10 of natural causes. The benefit is to raise money to pay for her internment at the Hollywood Forever cemetery.

While the theater’s own site does not list him among the guests, a poster posted at Vampira’s official site says Joel will be among the performers.

Call (800) 595-4849 or visit Steveallentheatre.com for more information. You can buy tickets to the event here.

Thanks to alert reader Joe for the heads up.

Weekend Discussion Thread: Favorite Host Segments–KTMA and Season 1

I was originally going to do just a general “Favorite host segment” thread, but then I realized that there are approximately 1,000 of them in total! Think of that: How many TV shows produced A THOUSAND sketches? “SNL”? “Mad TV” (I didn’t say they had to be funny…)? “Meet the Press”?

Anyway, I decided to break it down by season, so we can do this in bite-sized chunks. So: What are your top 3 host segments from season one. (And for a bonus, you KTMA fiends can mention any of your favorite segments from the mythical UHF season. I’ll pass, though.) We may get fewer responses this week: I suspect if there is any season non-completionist fans don’t have much of, it’s this one.

If you need a reminder, check the episode guide.

My choices, in no particular order:
• Joel gets a haircut from episode 105- THE CORPSE VANISHES. “They’re STILL picking up clown noses!”
• Tom hits on a blender from episode 103- MAD MONSTER. “What a lovely singing voice!”
• Crow and Tom take Commando Cody to reality court from episode 108- THE SLIME PEOPLE. “He’d be cartwheeling his butt off!”

What are yours?
