Long Weekend Discussion Threads

Happy Turkey Day everybody! Because we have a long weekend, I have two topics to get us through.

First–Are you having a Turkey Day marathon this weekend? What are you watching and why?

Me: “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians” is a Thanksgiving tradition in my house, but I think I will opt for Cinematic Titanic version. I don’t know whether it’s just that I’ve seen it less often, but right now I think it’s a better version. And of course I’ll be watching 403- CITY LIMITS for next week’s episode guide. I also plan to get to the latest RiffTrax, “Buffalo Rider.”

Second–What MSTed movie character would you like to invite for dinner?

My pick: the giant ducks from episode 523- VILLAGE OF THE GIANTS.

Have at it!

I actually have a circulated tape of Turkey Day Marathon episodes (Crawling Mano, Manos, Night of the Blood Beast, etc.) with the bumpers that make it feel like Turkey Day. I’ll probably throw in Guiron and and another random thing or two, just for fun. As for a character to have over, One can always use a Guiron himself to show up and carve the Gaos- er, turkey. But I’m guessing the girl from Final Justice must be starving by now (what with Joe Don Baker eating up all of Malta, and all), so she’d be my human pick.

We’re going for distopian movies, surrounded by the 91-95 MST3K Turkey Day segments and bumpers. Our lineup: Terminator Salvation (Rifftrax), Logan’s Run, Warriors of the Wasteland (Rifftrax), The Road Warrior, Robot Holocaust (MST3K), and The Road.

We’d invite the lady from Design For Dreaming, as long as she agree to bring the push-button kitchen of tomorrow stuff so making dinner would be easier.

Let’s see. What character? Well, for getting to the Mall
    tomorrow…Megaweapon!

To spend some quality time with, well, there’s Babs from
Spider Island :) , or perhaps to delve deep in psychoanalysis,
    Coleman Francis.

Movies: going for interesting and easy to watch
while engaged in other activities (esp. eating), 3-5 will be
possible (put around daytime football games-sorry about that)
    1) The Eye Creatures
    2) Time Chasers
    3) the movie that totally slams baboons!
    4) Santa Claus Conquers the (really feckless) Martians
    and, if time,
    5) Hamlet! (Hey, by then who’s really going to be paying
    attention to what’s on)?

Starting last night and ending tomorrow morning, here’s the roster:

    “Turkey Day Bumpers & Promos” (1991 & 1992)
    “Kitten with a Whip”
    “Riding with Death”
    “The Killer Shrews”
“MST Hour Host Segments (Disc 2)

And I’m leaving myself enough room for dinner, football, Charlie Brown, WKRP, B.C. and small talk with the family.

I’ll get back to you about the dinner guest.

  10. All Gamera episodes in order. THANK YOU NETFLIX!!! I would invite Peter Graves’ character from Beginning of the End so he could bring giant vegetables and we would have leftovers forever.

You’ve got the WKRP “As God is my witness I thought
turkeys could fly” episode on dvd? Now that’s an

Guest(s): The cast from Teenage Crime Wave. I don’t know, they seemed like they were having a pretty interesting Thanksgiving going on themselves, haw haw!!!!

I’m having a mini-marathon starting with The Dead Talk Back (maybe because the refrigerator short has lots of food in it?) and then seeing what I feel like from there.

I’d invite the Strickland family over for Thanksgiving. The dad would bring an amazing stuffing that he put his peanuts in. At least I sure hope he said peanuts.

Off topic, but it’s the beginning of the holidays

Last night I started off things with the very direct Thanksgiving related MST3ks. I watched the new Rifftrax “Buffalo Rider,” which has a very good Thanksgiving mood to it. Second, I watched the Turkey Day version of 701-Night of the Bloodbeast. Then, 522-Teenage Crimewave which takes place during Thanksgiving… and finally the Rifftrax Short “One Turkey, Two Turkey.”

For the rest of the weekend, I’m going to watch the Turkey Day bumpers extra on the NotBb Shout DVD and then mix it up. Maybe some 212-Godzilla Vs. Megalon, Master Ninja I&II, and 422-The Day the Earth Froze… and many more…

As for MSTed movie character, I’d invite Silver Morgan from Girls Town. If you don’t know why, then I can’t help you.

    HAPPY TURKEY DAY!

Oh! Forgot to say, no marathon. Might put one on. Incidentally, the last one I watch 3 or 4 days ago was Village of the Giants. Love that episode. Although I’d have to pardon those ducks like a White House Turkey. Couldn’t eat those poor mutant guys.

We’ve only watched a couple MST3K films in the past few days for Thanksgiving. “Night of the Blood Beast” (w/ Turkey Day drops)of course and “Teenage Crime Wave,” (which is supposed to occur at Thanksgiving).

I think I would invite Jane (from TCW), but my wife probably wouldn’t approve and they might wind up busting the screen on our new TV!

There will be MUCH movie riffing in my house this weekend. I keep all my MSTs/Rifftrax ripped onto my computer so it’s as easy as loading the folder then hitting shuffle for my own T-Day Marathon.

As for a dinner guest. I’d pick The Phantom Dictator of Krankor. He seems like a load of laughs.

Even though it’s not a holiday up here (maybe that’s why Mike and Crow hate Canada so much?), there will still be much MSTing chez moi. Night of the Blood Beast, just to get in the spirit, but I’m finishing off Season 4 (“Monster a Go-Go” to “Manos”–not a bad selection any time) and then we’ll see. We have a house rule that there is to be no Christmas anything until the First Sunday in Advent, which happens to be this Sunday, so perhaps one of the Santa films.

As for dinner guests–why not the Pilgrim sisters from “Crawling Eye”? They could also provide some after-dinner entertainment (at least until Anne flips out totally and has to be sedated–but, hey, even that’s entertaining…)

And if you’re sick of turkey, why not serve a Chicken of Tomorrow?

BTW–stuffing *and* potatoes–yeesh, why is this even an issue?

Myself and about 25 other MST fans are getting together in Portland, OR on Sunday to watch:

    * 521- SANTA CLAUS
    * 416- FIRE MAIDENS FROM OUTER SPACE
    * SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE MARTIANS (Cinematic Titanic version)

We get started at noon, so come join us if you get an itch. –> http://www.meetup.com/Portland-MST3K/

And as a dinner guest, I think I’d have the lovely and talented Kevin Casey from Francis Coleman’s THE SKY DIVERS, so she could tell us what her parents were thinking when they named her “Kevin”, and then we could talk about getting coffee but not actually get any.

It’s the TV spot advertising the first Turkey Day Marathon on Comedy Central.

Watched most of Gamera Vs. Gaos for my second marathon episode. Will probably squeeze in Night Of The Blood Beast (with Turkey Day bumpers), maybe some Beast Of Yucca Flats, Rocky Jones Manhunt In Space, Rocket Attack USA, Monster A-Go Go and more this weekend.

It has always been a tradition in my family to watch Riding with Death for Thanksgiving.

And seeing as how it’s MsT3K’s birthday, we are planning to watch a bunch of fun random episodes, but we will definitly watch Teenage Crime Wave because it’s techinally a Thanksgiving movie.

My family just now decided we want to invite Clu Gulager from San Fransisco International and Sinbad and his posse from Magic Voyage of Sinbad to our house for the holidays.

My wife and I have been MSTies for more than 20 years. We always make our own Turkey Day marathons of the show at home since it went off the air. Looking forward to that new Shout! Factory DVD set next week. Why doesn’t Johnny care?

I’m thinking I’ll throw in the DVD of Hercules Unchained. Steve Reeves’ physique is not unlike that of a plump, roasted turkey.

I would invite Ben Murphy from Driving With Death over. “mmm, turkey soup.” I would also invite Robert Denby, but I can never seem to get hold of him. Oh, and the fat man from Overdrawn At The Memory Bank. “All I can eat? The joke’s on them!”

Rowsdower seems like a good Thanksgiving guest, but would he really get into the spirit of the holiday being Canadian? But I will immediately contradict that by choosing to invite Nastinka from Jack Frost, IMO possibly the most charming performance in the annals of the show.

I’m just trying to squeeze all I can into a weekend in which I’ll be attacked by a barrage of family for days. Unfortunately, that’s probably just going to amount to “Jack Frost” (which always makes me hungry, what with the goose kippers and all, regardless of what those could be, and I like goose and I expect I’d like kippers, why my family has goose every Christmas, but I digress) and maybe a touch of “The Skydivers” (now I lay me down to eat).

As for guests, I’ll invite Aram Fingle, to not only bring his nuts, but also some “indigenous Puerto Rican cuisine” (Burger King).

I always watch a few MST eps during Thanksgiving, and always wish that the Turkey Day Marathons were still happening….Those were great times…(ah, Fun..)

Thus far this year it`s been ‘Human Duplicators’, ‘Night Of The Blood Beast’ (my `95 Turkey Day recording), and of course, my absolute favorite Thanksgiving episode; ‘Teen-Age Crime Wave’, which actually features Thanksgiving as a plot-point in the film.

As I consider Thanksgiving as being 4 days long with the weekend, I`m STILL having Turkey Day…So I`ll be watchig more MST today, tomorrow and Sunday (and eating more of that Birdzilla we cooked yesterday!)

HAPPY TURKEY DAY TO ALL !
