Another solid set, especially with the two big transition episodes as an added bonus. So glad Day the Earth Froze is coming out. Gorgo’s an unexpected surprise for sure.

Awesome! Last of the Russo-Finnish movies, Gorgo, which only aired on one day, and the last Joel episode and first Mike episodes! Shout, you rock! Now Sampo can watch Sampo on DVD…

GORGO!!!! I never thought I’d see the day! Now everyone will get to see Dorkin! Did someplace unusually warm recently experience sudden cooling? I don’t know if I ever heard, why did it air only once?

Plus The Day the Earth Froze! The last (and first!) of the Russo-Finish films makes it to DVD! SAMPO!

  9. Mike "ex-genius" Kelley says:

    Shoot! And good.

(Shoot because we *just* watched “Froze” yesterday as part of our rotation cycle, so it and “Moon” will have to wait until the next rotation. Good because, well, these are ALL good, and it will be nice to have both “Gorgo” and “Leech” coming up in our rotation).

Plus it turns out my “Froze” was actually pretty bad — I thought I had all the episodes in pristine condition but that one was really flaky so the next time we watch it will be great (although that will probably be a couple of years from now :<)

But what the heck is up with the “bonus disks”? Does that mean two additional episodes? Or just some features on them?

    Fantastic!!!

Once again, Shout! Factory produces a set that is better than I was expecting. And the Bonus Disc is perfection… Two Rhino-released episodes that I want to upgrade to DVD, without being a “double dip” that we’re strongarmed into buying again.

We’re surprisingly close to having all of Season 1 at this point, aren’t we?

That was a very surprising set ! I love it…
Gorgo is a childhood favorite of mine
Leech Woman I knew would come sooner or later
Day the Earth Froze – FINALLY – Im sure SAMPO is happy as are the other SAMPOS in the world
Moon Zero Two – not a favorite episode but lordy I never expected to see that one…that means they can get other Warner movies like Black Scorpion ?
This is the first time in a while we didnt get a Season 5 or 6 title
    What an amazing set !
And the extra 2 DVDs – can they really be upgrades – it is DVD quality – guess we will wait and see :)

untamed youth and black scorpion and the only 2 left on dvd for the first season. i am shocked by gorgo i had it on my never will be on dvd list. the day earth froze and leech woman are great episodes. in my opinion moon zero two is the worst episode of the show. the movie slow paced and the host segments are very weak. it just not funny at all. i will still buy the set because i want all episodes on dvd including this one.

I’ve got Mitchell and TBTWD on single dvd but it helps to have
essentially a back up, esp. with possible bonuses, since I’ve had one
dvd break (and it’s Cave Dwellers!).

As for this set overall, two words: Leonard Maltin.
But, oh no! Imdb only gives Gorgo a 5.4 out of ten rating.

  20. That’s funny, just the other night I was watching “The Slime People” and trying to think of what my ideal titles for the next set would be. And this announcement has 3 of the ones I wanted to see (Moon Zero Two, The Day the Earth Froze, and Leech Woman). And Gorgo has Leonard Maltin in it. So I’m very happy, needless to say.

The reason I wanted to see Moon Zero Two is that I’ve only seen the un-MST’d version. (I’m a Hammer Films fan.) So I can’t wait to see what’s done with it, even though it will be Season One quality…

Hmm. I wasn’t that crazy about “The day the Earth Froze”,(It’s been a while though) but I loved “Gorgo”, and “The Leech Woman” , i have never seen “Two Moon Zero”, and the bonus disc sounds enticing to me this time. So overall, I’d give this release a 9/10.

HO… LY… COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is not what I was expecting at all!!!! I was positive The Incredible Melting Man and The Thing That Wouldn’t Die would be next! What a surprise!!!! I never thought Moon Zero Two would be put out, but it looks like they made a deal with Warner, which means that Season 1 could become the first season of MST3K to be released completely on DVD!!!!!!!! And The Day the Earth Froze has been a long time coming. It’s one of the best episodes for sure! And I’m so glad they went back to release The Leach Woman! I wonder what the hold up was? And, of course, there’s Gorgo. Need I elaborate?!?! This is HUGE! There has been a lot of Gorgo stuff happening this year it seems, what with the new Blu-ray and the Steve Ditko comic book collection being released. I just can’t believe it! And both Mitchel AND The Brain that Wouldn’t Die?!?!?!?! The only thing that could make it all better? A Joe Don Baker interview for Mitchel, of course!!!! Hey, I can dream, can’t I?

God bless you, Shout! Factory! You ROCK!!!!!!!!

And happy 25th Aniversary to Mystery Science Theater 3000! This set is the best celebration I can think of! :)

  24. WOW!!! Moon Zero Two and Gorgo! Shout! has worked its charm on Warner Brothers. That opens the door for other Warner Bros. films and MGM films owned by Warner. Some that come to mind: Untamed Youth, The Black Scorpion, The Painted Hills, Girls Town, and possibly a few others. With Columbia/Sony now on board (Village of the Giants), we should soon be seeing Space Travelers, Teenage Crime Wave, and 12 To The Moon (maybe others). And don’t forget, there is more than just the first 5 in season 8 from Universal – other Universal titles include Riding With Death, Agent From H.A.R.M, and The Projected Man. Now, if Shout! can get Paramount on board, that would get us at least 2 titles – The Space Children and The Deadly Bees. Keep it up Shout!!!

  25. dsman71 says:

Warner probably agreed since they werent going to do anything else with those movies.
Village of the Giants is not Sony its MGM by the way
With the Warner titles it gives us just a few more Joel episodes to keep the 2 Joel and 2 Mike going –
Season 1 could theoretically be the first season to have every episode on DVD which is ironic since many were against having these released in the first place
    Girls Town is with Lionsgate
We can get the Painted Hills now I think

Oh snap! I will now say that NOTHING is impossible at this point. We could see a Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster or G V Megalon re-release at some point and I would not be surprised. I honestly never believed Gorgo would see the light of day.

I wonder if we’ll get an additional 25th anniversary set this year or if this will count as that & be packed to the gills with features and / or another figure (would love an SOL or Mike-era Cambot!) and / or another limited edition tin. Wishful thinking? Shout’s been good to us MST die-hards, so I’d be surprised if we don’t get something special for the 25th anniversary. Either way, another good set I’ll be getting day of release!

  35. Alex says:

Nice! With “Moon Zero” Two”, looks like Shout managed to get the rights to Warner movies, and if so, looks like season 1 might be the first season to have all episodes on DVD!

“Day the Earth Froze” was also pretty overdue and was high on the list, so it’s nice to see that one see its light of day.

“Leech Woman” I’ve never seen, though I have seen Servo’s “JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!” and “Gorgo” I heard had some rights problems when it aired on Sci-fi. Hopefully shouldn’t have any problems now.

It’s nice to hear some previous episodes from Rhino are getting re-released again; however, since I did hear the upgrade to “Wild, Wild World of Batwoman” was the same as the Rhino release, I’m a little skeptical on the two bonus discs. None the less, keep up the good work Shout!

S!A!M!P!O!!!!! At long last! “The Day the Earth Froze” was No. 1 on my personal lists of episodes I wanted to see on DVD.

But maybe more important is that this set includes “Gorgo,” an episode consistently listed as “highly unlikely” for inclusion by those that research such things. It makes one feel that nothing is impossible for the folks at Shout! Factory.

I mean, why not be pie-in-the-sky about it? Maybe within five or six years we’ll have every episode of MST3K on DVD. Not likely, of course, but nothing seems to be beyond the reach of Shout! Factory. Why not be optimistic?

I hope that the bonus disc will also be separate re-releases. As a fellow living in Canada, Shout!’s Canada shipping is way too costly. I splurged on the bonus serial variety pack, but I really hope I don’t have to do that twice in a row. :-((

    What a truly horrible set.

I had my fingers crossed for four dubbed versions of MANOS: THE HANDS OF FATE in Russian, Finnish, Haitian Creole, & Rapa Nui.

Perhaps with bonus disc documentaries on 1) Haitian black magic spell-casting, 2) King Manos: The Crowley Connection, and 3) the inevitability of Vatican 3 Rising.

Way to drop the ball, SHOUT!, Ballyhoo, et al – way to drop the ball.

This is an extremely exciting set, Shout! “The Day the Earth Froze” is an all-time favorite, and I’m thrilled it’s finally getting the Shout! treatment. I knew there were big problems with “Gorgo” getting released, so this is kind of amazing.

Since all of the surprising episodes that have been released lately have changed the game since Travis’s master likely/unlikely list came out, does anyone know if there’s another revised list out there of episodes and their likelihood of release?

I find it provocative that if WikiLeaks were to focus on releasing information about unannounced MST3K SHOUT! Factory sets, that WikiLeaks would probably be stymied (and just as excited as we were when announcement day came.)

If our government/CIA ran as smoothly/effectively as SHOUT! Factory we’d all be happier and have far less to bitch about.

If Shout! had been in charge of oil drilling in the Gulf instead of BP… well.. you get the idea.

Maybe SHOUT! Factory is proof positive of achieving UTOPIA.

    I’m crying right now.

Oh yes, this will be bought.

As far as Gorgo goes, Wiki sez that there were some rights issues that were undiscovered, hence why it only aired twice.

Also, got my seven-year old nephew hooked on the show. He wants to meet Crow and Tom.
