“Gila Monster” Single-Disk Details UPDATED – AGAIN!

coverRhino tells us the single-disk version of episode 402- THE GIANT GILA MONSTER will be available only at rhino.com for a price of–get this: $7.98 (cheap!). Our source also tells us it will only be available for a limited time (essentially until the limited pressing runs out–although we were also told that if sales are really strong initially, they may do a second pressing).

UPDATE 1: We can now confirm this report, which says that Dr. Forrester (Trace Beaulieu) and TV’s Frank (Frank Conniff) are also in the “Message from Joel” and that Tom Servo and Crow also have speaking roles.
And for those who did want a true replacement for the previous disk, we’re told the “Photo Gallery” (featuring a collection of historic Best Brains still photos)–which was included on the old Godzilla vs. Megalon disk, is also included on this one.

UPDATE 2: Ahead of schedule, the disk is now available for preorder!

UPDATE 3: We’re now being told that the disks will not actually ship until Feb. 11. “Since this is a limited edition special run we need extra time to get the product ready,” our source said.

UPDATE 4: As several of our readers have discovered, the release of the disk has been delayed for at least 2-4 weeks. As soon as we can get some kind of definite date we’ll post it here.

UPDATE 5: Our source at Rhino now foresees a ship date of Feb. 25. Stay tuned…

UPDATE 6: Many, many readers have written in and posted on the Comments section here that they’ve finally received shipment confirmations from Rhino. Hurray! If you haven’t received yours yet, keep an eye on your inbox!

    I went ahead and bought the 10.2 box set today at Best Buy. I really like the little bonus feature they threw in about how to destroy the old disk. Like that’s gonna happen :) Really really nice to see a new Dr. Forrester, Frank, Joel, and the bots skit. I’m kinda of a completest, so I hope to still get the single also. I’m watching it right now and it seems like a really good episode. I’m sure when it’s shipped you’ll all enjoy it. Nice to see Best Buy finally has MST3K on the shelf again too. They got in 10.2, 11, and 12. Several copies of each.

    I wonder if the delay has nothing to do with Rhino, but is a replication issue. I know several smaller production houses (such as Bandai and ADV Films on the anime side) have had problems getting titles out on time due to problems getting their stuff back from replicators. And the big studios take up most of the replication time, spitting out copies of Norbit and I Know Who Killed Me, while smaller places like Rhino (yes, they are part of Time-Warner, but they are small potatoes) get pushed to the margins. Add to the fact that Giant Gila Monster single is a short run (1500-2000 copies is nothing for most replicators), they might be having problems slotting this in.

  14. I didn’t find out about this until Feb. 22, and I’ve been checking the Rhino site daily. If “not currently available for sale” means “won’t be available for sale in future”, it would be nice if they’d quit teasing those of us who missed the deadline.

    Well, I’ve had to stop dusting that little space I cleared on my shelf next to the Rhino set with Teenagers from Outer Space. Little Muffy is not coming home, you just have to move on and buy another dog. I mean DVD!!

    Wow. If this is the way they do business, it’s no wonder that they lost the distribution rights to Shout Factory. Got my 5th backorder notice this morning. Rhino needs to pull their fingers out and do what they’re supposed to.

    Called Rhino again just now. Same answer. No date on when they’ll ship. Still waiting for them to ship from the warehouse. Why a charge is pending or has gone through on some people’s accounts, I dunno.

    Its just weird that I also got another “backorder notice” today, and yet for the second time I have a pending charge in my bank. I really hope the charge doesn’t reverse again as I hate having my bank account messed around with like this.

    I got my 5th notice today as well. Seriously… wtf? They already have the disc mastered and out for the 10.2 sets. Why is it so difficult to get another run of the disc? GRRR

    Well, they’re probably playing on our impatience and intentionally frustrating us so that we’ll get fed up, cancel our orders and go out and but the expensive four disc set instead. Pretty crafty of them to play off our obsessive fandom. I’m glad I won’t be doing business with them in the future.

    It took them 8 months to replace a couple of Monkees DVDs that were scratched. They sent the “sorry!” emails about 3 or 4 times. Eventually one DVD showed up. I got another “sorry!” email explaining that the next one would be a little late since they were having problems getting the replacement. It showed up months after the first one. And that was it. Not! They sent another “sorry!” email explaining that my replacements were delayed. I thought it was a mistake…or a twilight zone moment. But then I got duplicate replacements in the mail. So….when Rhino is done sending everyone duplicates we’ll all be nummy muffin cocoa butter happy again! Incidently, as soon as someone gets their dup I’ll pay you 5 bucks for it! ;)

    Time to just buy Vol. 10.2, burn The Giant Gila Monster disc, then send it back saying it didn’t load in any of my DVD players, get a fresh, sealed copy of the boxset back, then take that copy to Best Buy or something and say you wanna return it, but don’t have the receipt and get store credit and use that on whatever.

    WouldntYouLikeToKno, look out! You’ll set off the alarm hauling your ill gotten set into best buy. That happened when I ordered Lord of the Rings from Columbia House, they had a lot on their “To Do” list and “send Radioman970 his Lord of the Rings DVD” was at the bottom. So I snagged one at Walmart and tried to return the CH copy to the store. I set off the alarm. Luckily the store wasn’t busy (most embarrassment avoided) and they took the CH one like it was one of their own. Suckers!!!

    I’m more and more convinced this is because they didn’t restrict this to just people who could prove they owned the first Volume 10….and all of these “eBay Millionaires” got on there and bought hundreds at a time.

    During all the shipping delays my bank issued me a new Visa check card and so when Rhino finally did try to charge for the disc it failed, unbeknownst to me. Did they offer to let me try another card? No, I just got an email saying the order was cancelled – and now there’s no way to reorder! I wrote and asked them about it but all I got was basically a “so sorry, sucks to be you” note. I won’t be using Rhino’s online services again and I’ll probably have to rent “Gila Monster” at Netflix or someplace and make a copy.

    Similar happened to me. I lost my ATM card in mid feb.and had to cancel it (Nothing lost thankfully). I even contacted Rhino 2 weeks ago to ask them about changing the CC info so it would go through when the disk did ship and they told me that there was no way to do it, even though I contacted them BEFORE the ship date. What a horribly run company to give their customers absolutely no leeway.

I even went so far as to argue with them that I was entitled to a copy since I ordered on day one, and that they should be able to just take my new card info – case closed. They refused to admit that it was essentially their fault after weeks of delays, when, had it been ready as promised, this would not have happened. No offer to help, no apology that felt like it was sincere, just “we’ll contact you in the future if we decide to offer the disc again.” Yeah, RIGHT. :roll:

    Rhino can suck it. With service like this, I welcome change for the MST3K license. Bring it on.

    To all those whose cards didn’t expire in the weeks that this mess went on and on and actually got a shipping notice, congrats. The rest of us have drunken fits of anger to work through now.
