RIP David McCallum

New York City — Actor David McCallum, a Scottish actor best known for his roles on the 1960s spy series “The Man From UNCLE” and then, four decades later, for the CBS crime procedural “NCIS,” died at a hospital here Sept. 25. He was 90.

McCallum was a stalwart on “NCIS,” among the longest-running series on U.S. television. He joined the crime series when it launched in 2003, playing Donald “Ducky” Mallard, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service’s chief medical examiner through to its 20th season this year.

Before “NCIS,” he was best known as Russian secret agent Illya Kuryakin in “The Man from UNCLE,” a role that made him a 1960s heartthrob.

MSTies will remember him as evil terrorist Castille in the movie in episode 324- MASTER NINJA II.

The Washington Post has the story.

RIP Roger Whittaker

France — Multi-lingual whistling troubador Roger Whittaker died Sept. 12 in a hospital near Toulouse. He was 87.

Best known for his 1969 hit “Durham Town,” he was beloved by audiences on several continents. His other hits included “The Last Farewell” and “New World in the Morning,” and he sold nearly 50 million records around the world, his website said.

As played by Kevin, Whittaker visited Castle Forrester in a host segment in episode 903- THE PUMAMAN. In another segment in the same episode, Crow and Servo use their “genuine Aztec mask” to control Roger.

The BBC has the story.

Thanks to Gordon for the heads up.
