Looks like they did, indeed, get all the Sandy Frank stuff in one shot when they got the Gamera material. So, let’s see… we’ve knocked out the five Gamera movies this release clears “Mighty Jack” and “Time of the Apes”, which will leave just “Fugitive Alien” and “Fugitive Alien II” and they’ll probably put those two together as part of a larger set.

Woo-hoo, less than a month away… guess that also means we should be getting the titles for Vol. XXIII in the not-too-distant future!

Yay! Although times being what they are, my preordered copy will be turned over to my wife, who will wrap it and place it under the tree for me as my big Xmas present, to be opened later in the month. Damn economy.

Well I lost my job (again) and things are bleak so I’m investing my last few quid in this box and will save it for Christmas so along with the Doctor Who Christmas special I’ll be smiling. Being in the UK and not owning a computer or buying/trading shows they’ll all be as fresh to me as the morning dew and that first cup of tea in the morning. Ah to be a poet….

Am I the only one who wishes that Shout directed more resources at acquiring episodes from their rights holders, rather then spending money on Larry Blamire’s attempts to ride MST3K’s coattails?

@ #6: I really like Larry Blamire and his films, but I must admit you have a point there. Anyway, who am I to argue with the Emissary’s facial hair?

    And where’s my flying car?

The extras have been a lot of fun. I’ll trust that Shout! will keep working deals for the rights.

Despite the lemon of a featurette about Jam Handy on the Manos rererelease, I’ve been happy with them. I can’t imagine that the problem of breaking Godzilla free of its corporate overlords has been delayed in its solution by the time and money needed to interview folks about how awesomely weird the Santa Claus movies were.

  10. Greeting, everyone! For the most part, I am very happy that you are enjoying the new documentaries. I regret that the JAM HANDY satire didn’t work for some of you, but I still feel like it come together well (given the extremely low budget and time restraints). The fault may be in what people expected. I tried to create a documentary short in the guise of a Jam Handy industrial or educational film. The satire comes in the form of the main character, or instructor. The idea of using an educational film… within an educational film, showed how Jam Handy used the medium as a tool of communication. The acting was intentionally ‘wooden’ to satirize the deadpan characters within the world of Jam Handy’s films. In the end, it was an experiment. And like all experiments, the results can be speculative. I, for one, am proud of the work and the performance of those involved. I trust the scares are not too deep for some of you. :)

And the decision to include Larry Blamire in these features is my own, not Shout! Factory’s. The wonderful people at Shout! trust me to find the right people to help tell the story behind the films I choose to document. I think Larry is a quick-witted cult film enthusiast. His comments are often insightful and amusing. He is also a fan of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 series, so his inclusion as an interview makes sense.

Now, I not jumping to the defense of the work I have done for Shout! and their Mystery Science Theater 3000 releases. And I totally respect your thoughts concerning the extra’s. I just wanted to let you know that a lot of heart goes into these productions. In the end, it may be all I have to work with… and depend on. Each production is created for two purposes: to educate fans on the history behind the films or individuals featured in one or more MST episodes, and to add additional value to the boxed sets fans of purchasing. That, in the end, is my mission, as well as Shout! Factory’s.

Also, I assure you… the production of new bonus material does not interfere with the acquisition of new episodes. I know that Shout! continues to negotiate for more episodes, including the coveted Godzilla installments. I think it will happen… we just have to give them time. Acquiring some of these episodes doesn’t come down to money. Some of the rights owners do not care for Mystery Science Theater 3000 or how the series treated their property. But Shout! is diligent… and as a MST3K fan… I have faith in them.

Thanks again for watching these features! They are made solely with you, the fans, in mind! And I hope everyone enjoys the TRAIL OF THE CREEPER documentary on the upcoming volume XXII!
