This looks like the perfect continuation of their 80s VOD trend, but when exactly was this made, and what are its alternate titles? I searched for Ghost House on IMDB got mostly Asian films, and hardly any from the right era.

Ah, yes, that explains all the Argento- and Fulci-inspired bits.
Someone well versed in Italian cash-ins could’ve made a drinking game out of your trailer alone. Alas, I only get to the dying video stores after the horror buffs have picked ’em clean, so I’d managed to never see this one.

Any chance you’ll take a crack at ‘Revenge of the Dead/Zeder’ this year? Lots of nice long pauses in that one, and I want to see it suffer; and hopefully hear Kevin explain how the rotund guy who comes back from the dead is really Lucio Fulci seeking revenge on everyone involved in editing ‘The Beyond’ into ‘Seven Doors of Death’.

Really looking forward to this one!

Eh, my download got interrupted. Will do it while out of the house or asleep. That always works.

I did appreciate that Bill gave us a “Troll 2 acting award” in this movie. Otherwise it’s most memorable to me as the least scary horror movie I’ve ever seen. I really am not a fan of horror fans which causes me an issue with most of the CT titles of course. But this one has some of the worst special effects we have seen in a long time.

Normally I miss the 80’s as well being old enough to remember them including my teenage years. This, and for that matter Pod People, help to show me the error of my ways. Now here is what’s important. The riffing is good and constant. They have a lot of material to work with. This is almost a three scene movie. So it’s easy to tear it apart. The acting is horrid, The plot is bad with an ending that will make you scratch your head even worse. Add in that we have HAM radio operators and it’s a true slice of it’s time.

This feels like one that will get better with repeated viewings as well. To catch some of the jokes I missed the first time through

I really wish they would make some physical DVDs again. I’ve got money I’d like to send them!

    This looks pretty darn good.

I hate myself for laughing as hard as I did at Kevin’s quip about tombs and the call of nature in the preview.

Anyone feeling hungry for a little vaguely foreign-y chili?

(I give this one an A-. They missed the mark at times, so to speak).

We have three new DVDs coming out in February: Crater Lake Monster, The Galaxy Invader, and Hand-crafted Artisanal Shorts. The wait won’t be long!

  9. JeremyR says:

Ghosthouse is a bit gory in spots, but it’s a much better movie for riffing than some of their past choices (like in Galaxy Invader, where an alien rapes a woman and the whole plot revolves around the baby conceived from said rape) and Laser Mission (just creepy with how Brandon Lee died.

So this is the first one I bought since Crater Lake Monster. It’s not nearly as good as that, but that is one of their best efforts. This is pretty good, except far too many bathroom related jokes and recycling sarcastic jokes about overly dressed women looking like harlot.

On the downside they seem to have removed DivX as a download option. And despite making a Zune joke in the movie, they took out support for that as well – there is a WMV but a gigantic one. Tip – not everyone has Apple devices! Though to be fair, they’ve added an option to download a burnable ISO

They’ve had burnable ISO as an option for a long time now. I’ve got all the VOD titles that aren’t yet on DVD that way, burned to DVD myself. That way I can take the disc anywhere, although it’s usually to my bedroom to watch at night or for my laptop/portable DVD player when I’m not at home (such as when my 2nd child was born last year).

Man, this brings back memories. My cousin and I rented Ghosthouse back in the era when we were into real horror movies like Evil Dead and Pumpkinhead, and Ghosthouse became an instant classic. We didn’t even notice how stupid the plot was, because we were too busy laughing at the acting. Many of the scenes seemed to be improvised, with the actors not quite knowing what to say. (“You and I both know…that fan was pointed in an UPWARD direction!”)

So this was the first film I saw that was so bad it’s good, we were frankly stunned how bad it was, we watched it over and over again, and still didn’t quite get what was going on. Havent seen the whole RT version yet. Love it.

  12. The DivX will be up today – we had an encoding glitch that needed to be corrected.

Crater Lake Monster, The Galaxy Invader, and Hand-crafted Artisanal Shorts coming to DVD in February! Thank you Rifftrax! At least I get to catch up a little to the people who have newer computers than me. Can’t wait to see what I’ve been missing.

JeremyR “(like in Galaxy Invader, where an alien rapes a woman and the whole plot revolves around the baby conceived from said rape)”

Do you mean Abraxas? I’m not being snarky about you getting the movie wrong, I was just thrown for a massive loop by your description of it. The woman isn’t raped so much as involuntarily impregnated through the alien holding his hand on her stomach. Not nearly as completely f’d up. However, to this day I still think it’s weird they riffed Memento, in which a woman is indeed raped.

    Re New releases

Fantastic! Galaxy Invader is the best Rifftrax so far. Really like an MST ep so fans rejoice!

But only one short collection? I’m not sure that will satisfy my shorts addiction!

And indeed it is Abraxas that features a woman being impregnated against her will…not Galaxy Invader which features rednecks being killed against their will.

Eric The W (Post 9) – Thank you very much for the great news. I buy all physical product and will always continue to support Rifftrax by purchasing at least one of everything as long as they keep making it. Thank you!

Thanks Conor! That is indeed an excellent selection–a sort of greatest hits of yet unreleased shorts (minus Magical Disappearing Money and Setting up a Room of course).

    But we need more, more!
