Weekend Discussion Thread: What Do You Want/What Are You Giving?

With the holiday season upon us, the question is this: What MST3K/RiffTrax/Cinematic Titanic-related items are you hoping to get as a gift, and what are you thinking of giving as a gift? Feel free to link to sites selling the item, but be prepared for your post to be delayed (the system doesn’t like posts with too many links in them).

Any of the last five Rifftrax DVD releases would be great to have.

i have resisted buying the 25th anniversary box set so that whoever in my family drew my name would have an idea of what to get me. on a semi related topic we could discuss what we’d give or like to receive from the MST’d characters that we know and love.

Not very original, but the 25th Anniversary set for my niece.
(Their small NYC apartment doesn’t have much space for bigger gifts).

Btw, Best Buy proved useless in ordering the set. The store near me didn’t have it,
they found one in Montgomeryville, Pa. but that one wouldn’t or couldn’t deliver
it to either me or the store near me and I would have had to pick it up personally
(not practicable—no working car). So I used Barnes and Noble to have the set mailed
    to me.

This holiday season I want Frank, Joel, Josh, Trace and Mary Jo to have many projects we can enjoy. I think that would be a huge gift for us fans. Yeah, that would be great.

I want Cinematic Titanic DVDs of Doll Squad, Samson, and Astral Factor. And I want more RiffTrax Batman shorts, and the recent Christmas live show, and the Starship Troopers show, and a pony. And world peace, I guess.

Also, I want Leinenkugel’s Snowdrift Vanilla Porter on tap in my house.

Actually, y’know what? Forget the pony. I don’t want Santa to think I’m greedy.

A copy of the 25th anniversary box set, but I don’t want to ask my girlfriend for too much. She’s already making a Star Trek themed throw for me. God, I love her!

Only after I e-mailed my Christmas wishlist to my family did I realize that I forgot to include the MST3K: The Movie Blu-ray that just came out a few months ago. But I’ve already got several other Blu-rays on my list (Monsters University, Futurama Volume 8, The Muppet Movie) that one more would probably be pushing it.

Nobody else in my family likes MST3K, so I won’t be giving any related gifts. However, my grandma really loved the movie The Heat, so I think I might get her that, and it comes with an audio commentary from Joel, Josh, and Trace. Does that count?

I asked Santa Husband to give me the all-Gamera set, just the regular one and not the Collector’s Tin. I’m sure I’ll get it because I already ordered it, handed it to him, and said, “Please give me this for Christmas.”

    I’m subtle that way.

Well, I got my wish pretty quick. My dad found the 25th anniversary box set used, but in good condition, on Amazon. Listed price $37, but thanks to his AMEX points, Dad only paid $18!

    From my Christmas List, DVDs:

    MST3K: 25th Anniversary Box Set

CT: Rattlers (the others are either already on Hulu, movies too gruesome for my tastes, or both)

RiffTrax: Order in the Shorts, Jack the Giant Killer, Shorts to Astonish, Olde Tyme Shorts Roundup, Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny, Swing Parade (full movie-wise, the same as in the CT parentheses above)

Well, if I’m wishing, why not wish for the big ones? Cinematic Titanic releases of Doll Squad, Samson and the Seven Miracles of the World, and Astral Factor, or MST3K releases of the first three KTMA shows.

As for what I’m giving … probably not much, since not many people I know like MST3K or riffing in general. I gave a DVD of “Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny” to an uncle of mine last year, but I never followed up afterward to see if he watched/liked it. If anything, it will probably be something simple, like a DVD of the “Santa’s Village of Madness” shorts.

I want to give my entire family a good brainwashing session so that they will like MST3K more than football, or “Christmas Story,” and then we can all watch together over the holidays. That’s….perfectly normal….

Oops, totally forgot to say what I ‘m giving. A lucky family member is getting this from me: http://supertotallyawesome.spreadshirt.com/gizmonic-institue-radio-every-episode-hoodie-A13990357

Yes, I know they misspelled “Institute” but I don’t think that’s part of the design. Cool, eh?

  20. I’ve already given myself two MST presents this holiday season, being unable to pass up on two great deals.

I ordered Vol. XIX (w/ Gypsy figure) from Shout! Factory during their Turkey Month Sale a few weeks back (great set!) and last weekend I went and bought the 25th anniversary set (vol. XXVIII, also a great set) from Barnes & Noble simply because I could not pass up the amazing offer (it was 30% off, plus I had a 30% off Black Friday coupon they emailed me, plus another 10% off membership discount: I got that sucker for $28! Woo! Merry Christmas to me!).

So yeah, I’m probably good on the MST department for the holidays, although I do want the Blu-Ray/DVD combo of MST: The Movie that Shout! released this year. . . maybe for my birthday… it’s in January. ;-)

Attention- Evil straight ahead. You could just drop on a friend or family member the Star Wars Holiday Special. Don’t tell them what it is; just present the DVD. And I mean drop it like a box of depleted uranium.

Oh, I don’t really want anything, unless it’s a greater capacity to love.
That, and the little pewter Moore creations Crow and Servo figures which are on a popular auction website. I’ve been seeking those out for a year now.

Not buying (until I can scrape up enough Amazon GC for the 25th), but at least hoping to get HS-aged niece and nephew–who only now have come across the series–started on the annual tradition of watching Santa Claus Conquers the Martians every Christmas season.
(Instead of them making me sit through that danged weirdo Polar Express every year…)
The Mexican Santa Claus, I’m reserving for next year. :)

My Christmas list is loaded with MST3k stuff: a few live DVDs, CT stuff, Mike and Kevin’s books, a request to see if Mom can find a used MST set for under $35 (I’m almost 35 and Mom STILL insists on a list every year).

If nothing pans out, my birthday’s next month.

@21 – But first, you have to find somebody who’s never HEARD of the SWHS and/or giggles uproarily in Lucas/70’s-bashing cult bliss at the very mention of it whether they’ve seen it in their entire lives or not. (Which is why RiffTrax did it in the first place.)
Now, “Santa & the Ice Cream Bunny”, OTOH, is neatly under the radar… ;)

As far as MST related, I would be happy if CT titles “The Alien Factor” and “Blood of the Vampires” would be listed for sale on Amazon as DVDs.

As far as Christmas in the bigger picture, I want the same thing I want every year but never get:

A roomful of silver spherical Horta eggs, by God.

MST3K volumes 2-6, 8, 9 are ones that I’ve requested and a RiffTrax gift certificate. Nobody in my family likes MST3K related stuff nearly as much as I do, so if I get them a MST3K gift, they’ll likely think that I was being a jerk and was just getting it for myself. I got my mom a “Coffee? I LIKE coffee!” shirt, but she never wears it.

I know that my brother wants a complete Tom Servo! If I had the money I would get him one.

I have the 25th Anniversary set, the most recent Rifftrax and the Blu-ray of MST3K: The Movie, so my request would be for copies of the un-MSTied versions of all the movies riffed! I have many of them but would be willing to have back-up copies of each.

I realize this may be in bad taste, but this is my first post, and im trying to sell something. I hope someone else could put this in a nice glass case on a mantel as I always wanted. Ive held onto this Deep 13 set piece for too long now. Its sat in a dark closet since 1997 and I really dont get to display it. Your chance to own a piece of history ! Pickup avail in North East PA (Scranton) or insured shipping as well. text 941-323-3505 if you want to meet up.

  32. Well, here’s yet another wish for the 25th Anniversary Set.

I could also really dig a copy of the single-volume DVD of Manos and the RiffTrax DVD release of Plan 9 From Outer Space.
