    Mr. B?!?!?!?!?!? YES!!! :-D :-D
Man, the Rifftrax guys just don’t think that ANYTHING is off-limits! Good on ’em!

I feel the opposite – there are billions of bad movies and shorts out there. Doing MST3K material feels tacky.

  3. Thomas K. Dye says:

Yeah, the only advantage to the RT version is they’ll be doing the WHOLE short, and there’s some material left off the MST version that’s ripe for riffing (the music teacher is WAY too interested in examining Buzz, for one thing).

I’m more interested in “Le voyage dans la lune” (how pretentious am I?). I love Melies’ work but I’m not against it getting ribbed.

  4. If they’re going to start re-riffing old MST3K, I recommend they do Teenagers from Outer Space. That movie is such a gold-mine for ridicule but the riffing is utterly feeble. Basically at the level of “State Park jokes” throughout with only the odd good riff. Usually, when the movie is the kind that practically riffs itself, you can’t go wrong. But they were seriously off their game in that episode. Then there are a lot of good KTMA eps they could do, if they could secure the rights, such as The Green Slime and Hangar 18.

FS #2 – I know what you’re saying. I felt the same way about “Manos” and “Santa v Martians”, but those both turned out awesome, especially “Manos” that had my sides hurting in the theater. As long as they don’t make a habit of it, or as long as the results keep turning out like those from “Manos”, I’m good.

I’ve already had both of these for three months because of donating for their Kickstarter! :-P

Since they’re going back and riffing movies and shorts that MST did already, then I suggest they riff ROBOT HOLOCAUST and maybe a few of The Undersea Kingdom chapters, too…

Mr B Natural isn’t just any old “thing that mst did once already” fer gosh sakes. It’s probably the most amazing short MST ever showed, and it wasn’t shown uncut then, and it’s not available elsewhere as a standalone.

I saw the “Mr. B” riff. It made my head spin when Kevin and Mike behaved as if they have never seen Mr. B in all his/her glory before. I *think* that’s what the kids call a retcon. It’s short for retroactive continuity and involves altering backstories for the convenience of the writers.

To use in a sentence, “Rifftrax retconned that Mike and Kevin had neither seen nor riffed ‘Mr. B’ before, which entitled them to act surprised during the riff.”

Maybe they need to work on their acting skills, because I did NOT buy their befuddlement. ;)

But, to be fair, I guess they have to work to sound spontaneous on *all* their projects. Otherwise, it wouldn’t…be natural (groan).

Doing Mr. B Natural again is pretty lame.

There’s plenty of good PD stuff out there they haven’t covered.

Wasn’t there a Weeken Discussion Thread on what movies we would like to see RT or Ct tackle again? Seriously, I am honestly asking. My brain is Swiss cheese and Mr. b Natural has jogged some spark in my memory. If so RT could take a gander on the top choices for future material. :)

For those who are uncertain about the idea of Mr. B Natural being riffed again, all I’m going to say is this: Mr. B jumping out of Buzz’s window.

I’ve only seen a sample of the Mr. B natural riff but i thought it was really funny. I liked how while they were a little bit weirded out by Mr. B they weren’t shrieking in horrinr right from the begining. That was somethingh that bothered me about the MST3K version; how they seemed to be in fright before Mr. B actually did anything. I think they let some of thier biases from the writing process seep into the performance. I want to buy it. Best riff i’ve seen…

This seems very wrong to me, although I did like CT’s redux of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. Even that one seems a little weird though, and I don’t think this redoing of already-riffed material is a good trend. You can’t help but have the original riffs go through your mind when you watch it which detracts from the experience.

And it’s lame of Rifftrax to pretend they haven’t seen it before, I think CT actually had fun with the idea of redoing a movie in their episode, I can’t remember exactly but I am watching the CT redux tomorrow night.

Is this the first time a silent film has ever been riffed?

It would have been so meta if they riffed “Voyage to the Moon” by not saying anything …

    Okay RiffTraxx. . .Do Metropolis!
(especially the 80’s lame rock music soundtrack re-release.)

also. . . there maybe a few writers on the RT staff who may have never seen Mr. B Natural.

@18 Whether you like the pop soundtrack or not, the 1984 Giorgio Moroder restoration of Metropolis is respected for trying to reconstruct a film that had been completely gutted by time and censorship. (Especially in a time when film preservation wasn’t exactly in the public consciousness yet.) It’s nothing short of a miracle all the lost footage surfaced in South America several years back.

Redoning Mr. B, man they are getting lazy. I would not be surprised if they redo all of the MST3K films.

For whatever it’s worth, I’d have to agree with #2. I’m sure they did a good job with it, but revisiting MST3K material seems lazy to me. Show us something we haven’t seen before, or at least something that really needs a re-do. Some of the MST3K Season One films would fall into that category, along with the KTMA films that weren’t re-done at Comedy Central.
