RIP Phyllis Coates

Woodland Hills, Calif. — Actress Phyllis Coates, who became television’s first Lois Lane when she was cast in the classic “Adventures of Superman” series starring George Reeves, died Oct. 11 at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital here. She was 96.

In 1951, Coates was invited to audition for the role of Lois Lane in the low-budget feature film “Superman and the Mole Men.” The film was a de facto TV pilot, and by the end of the year both Reeves and Coates were asked to join the upcoming TV series.

MSTies will recall that she played Mrs. Mulvory in the movie in episode 602- INVASION U.S.A.

Deadline has the story.
