ShoutFactory Newsletter Goof

A few folks have written in to tell us that they’ve received the monthly ShoutFactory email newsletter, and that it mentions a panel at Comic-Con. As we’ve already mentioned, the Rifftrax guys will be at Comic-Con, and an announcement regarding the first ShoutFactory release is going to take place at Comic-Con, so some sort of panel seems likely. However, ShoutFactory officials have told us the info in the newsletter item is NOT accurate and to stay tuned for an official announcement coming soon, once the ComicCon people iron everything out.
That’s all we have so far, but stay tuned…

Don’t say stuff like that otherwise I may trick myself into thinking unrealistic things like a reunion show/s. ;) But seriously I can’t wait to see what sort Sampo-tastic goodies the panel churns at us.

Er, something big *IS* going down at Comic-Con! It’s been confirmed that the entire bloody cast of MST3K is gonna be there! Old AND new! That’s kind of a big deal, isn’t it!? *starts to hyperventilate*

Shoutfactory says that their first set is ready & that they are getting episodes ready for the next volumes..they said they will release sets more often than Rhino and the titles wont all be public domain. Maybe they have a better rapport with rights owners than Rhino
I wonder if it will be called Volume 13..but in reality im dying to know what it is they are releasing
I for one hope the Crawling Eye is one of the movies, others i want to see are Rocketship XM, Jungle Goddess, the key episodes like 706, 801 & for God sake something from Season 3 from AIP or Gamera :)

They need to get Sandy Frank drunk and laid. And then get him drunk and laid some more.

Yeah I think they might announce what movies to expect on the next DVDs, that is, if they announce anything along those lines. I think just having the entire cast back together is a newsworthy item in itself :) Here’s hoping they get that newsletter sent back out again, or better yet, a solitary newsletter just for that one event!

    Robyn–
Our pal Conor seems has allowed a feline to escape its sack prematurely…

Something along these lines has been percolating for several weeks, but everybody involved (including, up till now, Rifftrax) has asked us to wait on a definitive announcement, for fear that saying something before the Comic-Con gods have given their official, final okey-dokey (which, as of today, my information is they have not) will cause some sort of problem…

So, while I’m not saying Conor’s wrong, I AM saying that we’re NOT confirming this until all the eyes are crossed and the tees are dotted. :-)

I just hope Shoutfactory can SOMEHOW deliver those lost KTMA episodes. I know someone has to have them…

^^^Agreed. The members of MST3K have admitted that those episodes were horrible and not funny. While I agree with some of that, I have to say that it’s not ALL bad. I have seen some good episodes from the KTMA season. Besides that, I’m sure any volumes they deliver will be good just as long as we’re not overloaded with the Sci-Fi Channel era episodes.

Oops, I mixed up my Rifftrax guys (they’re all interchangable, right? )
    I meant to say Erik.

I just hope that Shoutfactory realizes that there is an audience for those lost KTMA episodes. Since the show isn’t on TV anymore, the only people buying these DVDs are fans who already know the show and most MST3K fans (like me) have a completist streak a mile wide. I think those DVDs would sell pretty well if they ever unearthed those episodes. As far as I know, i don’t think Joel has much of a problem with people seeing the KTMA eps…but i think Jim does.

The way it looks on SHOUTFACTORY.COM (under community), the 4 disc set will be one sided, each disc will have it’s own thin sleeve, and it sounds like it will be a new volume numbering, in other words, the first release won’t be Vol. 13. Being that it’s a 20th Anniversary type collection, I’d like to think that it will mean that it would contain one of the following: 101 The Crawling Hand (being the first episode on cable), 201 Rocketship X-M (first Frank, new Servo, new SOL & Deep 13 sets), 706 Laserblast (last CC episode), and either 1001 Soultaker (Joel and Frank return) or 1013 Diabolik (the last episode). Just a guess anyway. I’d also like to think maybe for extras: MST Scrapbook, the KTMA host segment from the pilot that introduces Gypsy (the original that shows Crow and “Beeper” was on the Scrapbook and this 2nd host segment would be nice to see outside of bootlegs online). Other features I’d like to see: This is MST3K, The Making Of MST3K, RAW-The Last Dance (if Diabolik is one of the discs), the movie’s cut host segment, alternate ending, trailer (if possible). Again, just a guess for the set. One last thought: if Shout could (by some miracle) get the rights for the 9 Japanese movies from season 3, it would be great if they could release those dvds with TWO episodes on each disc. One being the Season 3 ep, the other being the KTMA ep with the same movie. If only it were reasonably possible.

Oh, I forgot, I wonder if they won’t mention the titles until the last minute due to Rhino’s problems, where, they had the movies ready to go, but after releasing the episode, someone decided that the episode’s rights weren’t satisfied.

Cool…both KTMA and S3 episodes on the same disc! Awesome idea speedy. Speedy, you should have been here POST #1 with that idea, what took you so long?!

I think you might be on the money Speedy…just like I said also, key episodes like 101,201,706,1001 (hey 2 Joels and 2 Mikes wouldnt you know) ..or maybe some season 3 stuff…i wouldnt be surprised if the scrapbook was part of it or at least the KTMA Green Slime trailer or Pilot or something…i think we are in for a major real treat..I think Diabolik would be a real stretch but we really dont know ShoutFactory all that well, so we just have to sit and wait…furthermore maybe this first set will contain more than 4 episodes ??

Happy, they’ve said it will be a 4 disc release on their site. They’ve also strongly “hinted” that “Laserblast” will be one of the first 4 episodes. Other than that we’ll have to wait until the convention and dream our little dreams and hope for our favs.

  22. happy says:

I missed that part of the 4 episodes Fred, or I just forgot, who said they wont add a KTMA show as a bonus ? Is that possible ?
Anything is possible at this point, but with this being a 20th Anniversary set , & key episodes just might be the theme..
    Happy guesses
    101 – Crawling Eye
    201 – Rocketship XM
706 – Laserblast which seems to be a given
    1001 Soultaker
My guess is the scrapbook tape will be on there, and just maybe the whole Green Slime Pilot..maybe even audio commentaries with the MST3K crew…I would really be amazed if they could get Diabolik, well the wait wont be much longer…

I think a cool set would be the 4 Russo-Finnish movies they did over the years. Who wouldn’t LOVE to have “Jack Frost” and “The Day The Earth Froze” on dvd? “Lemmankiman we all hate you…”

  25. Steve Vil says:

Maybe they won’t number the sets, maybe they’ll name them instead. I think the first one should be called “Paul”.

If we’re listing our hoped-for extras, maybe a recording of the (unconfirmed) upcoming 20th anniversary panel? If Shout Factory doesn’t do it, this occasion will likely live on only via someone’s crappy cellphone …
