I had a heck of a time! I remember watching “Rattlers” when I was younger — okay, I just remember the bathtub scene — but I didn’t remember how deathly cheap and boring it was. The Titans managed to enliven it, though — there were a half-dozen times I’m sure they had to skip riffs because the audience was laughing too hard. Since this was the premiere, we got sort of an inside peek at the script editing process: Joel and Trace did an extended riff on movie voice-overs, which sort of confused the audience. A bit later, Joel asked Trace, in a teasing sort of way, if he could tell him about voice-overs again, to which Trace replied, snarkily, “No, because that bit didn’t work.” (Me, I thought the bit was funny.) At one point, Frank flubbed a line because he was laughing too hard, and Josh got all up in the audience’s grill for booing a Chilean miners reference. (“What? C’mon! They were all rescued!”) If anything, they seemed looser and more comfortable than they did in early 2009, which I suppose makes sense.

The opener was completely redone, at least from the last time I saw them in Boston. No Convoluted Man, no KADD, no Gruber. ( :-( ) Joel did prop comedy (and magic! and an impression!), Frank did some slightly blue standup, Mary Jo did the shortest standup set in history, Trace read from “Silly Rhymes for Belligerent Children” with Josh accompanying on bass, and Josh did a pitch-perfect cover of Elvis Costello’s “Accidents Will Happen.” I was lucky enough to be about 13th in line for the meet-and-greet, and was tickled that both Joel and Trace found me vaguely, perhaps suspiciously, familiar. Frank says his knees have been doing better lately, for those who’ve been worried about his gout.

I was wedged in six feet from the stage, and right next to one of the speakers, so the audio mix got a little blown out for me at times. And the Wilbur’s pit seats are not what I would call comfortable; my back’s a little ouchie. Still 100% glad I went — the show cheered me right up tonight.

RATTLERS was one of the movies I suggested to CT to riff, so being at the premiere made an already awesome experience that much better. And at the meet n greet Joel introduced me to the rest of the cast as the guy who found the movie for them. So yeah, super geek-out there. :D

The opening act, while a departure from the previous shows, was still really funny. RATTLERS is hilarious throughout, it was a perfect choice for the CT treatment.

Indeed, the Wilbur theater seats at the long tables were EXTREMELY uncomfortable and tightly-packed together. But the awesomeness of the show made up for it.

Can’t wait to see the CT gang again at the Concord N.H. shows! The live shows really do rock!

I wasn’t going to post because I didn’t want to be negative
but I see you others have brought it up.
No reflection on the CT’s,who were awesome, but the seating at the Wilbur is atrocious. We left early which is something I wouldn’t have done, but it was that uncomfortable.
Again, no fault of the Ct crew. Who were hilarious.
    Fave joke:
Frank’s torture porn joke, big horror fan and am sick to death
of that term. Thank you Frank for teaching us to laugh about
    torture porn, again.

New opening bits! Damn, I wish I’d been able to go to this one!

Maybe I’ll be able to go to the one in N.H., and hopefully this new stuff will be part of it.

The show was one off the best. They get better everytime we see them :)
I was bummed because we were running a bit late. At first didn’t think it was going to be a big deal…..expected them to open the show as they had before. I missed Joel’s section completely, and made it in for the end of Frank’s. I can’t wait to see him next time.
The movie and the Riffing A+++++++
The theater? Easily 100 degrees in the balcony!!!! No joke! I have never seen a crowd so happy to have fresh air in my life.
Can’t wait for the next go around :)

Agree with everyone else, the Wilbur, while a beautiful theater to LOOK at, has the most uncomfortable seating imaginable.

J.Elvis opened the show by introducing Joel, who did some magic tricks, prop comedy, and even some crowd interaction. He then introduced Frank who did some stand-up comedy for at least 10 minutes. Frank introduced Mary Jo who did a 2 minute story about Crisis on Infinite Earths and the death of Supergirl. Trace then came on and did some readings from Silly Rhymes while Josh played bass in the background. Images from the book were projected onto the movie screen while Trace read. A nice touch was when Trace said that he had dedicated the book to a couple who were celebrating their anniversary and the couple, who were in the crowd, cheered. Finally, J.Elvis did a fantastic Elvis Costello impression.

The movie itself was great. Some good pacing, some obvious high points where the crowd were belly laughing, and some nice chuckles from the CT team, particularly Frank who seemed to find much of what was being read amusing. They threw in a “Watch out for snakes” reference though they changed it just a bit to make it fit the movie.

The line to meet the gang after the movie stretched from one door, down to the front of the stage, across the front of the stage, and back up the aisle to the other door. Despite the fact that the Titans had just done a long show and were going to be signing merchandise for a long time, they were incredibly gracious and friendly, offering handshakes and seeming genuinely pleased to be meeting each and every one of us. I got a few pictures done as well.

A fantastic night. Hope to experience it again in Concord!

I had a table and wished I’d been in the mezzanine. Was I sore when the show was over!

I was baffled by Mary Jo’s opening monologue. Supergirl’s death in Crisis on Infinite Earths upset her that much?? Was she not reading when The Flash died?!

I enjoyed the show, but nowhere near as much as CT’s last performance in Boston on 20-Feb-10. It was neat to see that they’d switched from printed scripts to iPads, though.

So the general consensus we all have aboot the Wilbur was pretty place, horrible seats, and hot as hell!
Otherwise, a great show. Nice to see extended stand-up sets after multiple shows of the same material, though we missed Gruber!
The movie was a lot of fun, more enjoyable that Samson & the 7 Miracles, which was their movie showcased at the last show, in RI.
To echo something the 1st couple people said; this is our 3rd show (missed Somerville due to family emergency) w/ Northampton & Rhode Island under our belts. In Northampton, we met the folks @ the hotel; had several conversations w/ them & chain-smoked w/ Josh. Since then, at the RI show & Boston, before we even reintroduced ourselves, Joel remembered us & welcomed us back warmly, making sure to point us out to everyone else. Josh even recalled our ‘hang’ months after the fact, not to mention the other warm greetings we got from them. These are moments that my wife & I will remember fondly. Being their fan is a very full experience!

Wow, hardly the first posting I’ve seen complaining about the seating. It seems to be part and parcel for halls they are playing. I remember Turner Hall in Milwaukee being quite unconfortable as well. And that was a double feature.

So much to say about the show. Loved the warm up, Joel was great, it’s good to see him with props and right at home center stage. Frank was well very frank, and we had a young friend with us that gasped a few times. But Frank is Frank and he seemed to be having a good time all night. Mary Jo was cute as a button, I really enjoy seeing her at these shows. She has a good time with the others and her reaction to things they say is real and genuine this is a close group of friends ripping (riffing) really bad movies. Josh did a great job with his Elvis Costello song, he’s a real talented guy with all the stuff he’s done over the years and he did something cool for me in the line after the show. And Trace is just cool,I was really glad he read from his book (I bought one as soon as we got there) he has such a great voice and was great to talk to after the show. Speaking of talking with them after the show. Is it just me or has anyone else spent the days leading up to the show thinking of all kinds of stuff you want to say when you meet them and then when you do you just mumble something like – ” Hi Joel great show, red jump suit, funny snakes, great theater, see you in N.H. in January” I always feel like a goof when I meet them. And this time I was so busy thinking of stuff to say I missed getting all of them to sign the two CT movies I had with me but my wife was able to get the movies she had signed by all. One last thing about the seating I was glad we had seats in the mezzanine the floor seats didn’t seem so good. We had the third row and four of our friends had the last row in the mezzanine, but before the show started they gave them four seats for the first row which was cool. And last of all about how hot it was, welcome to Boston’s old concert halls, I’ve never gone to a show in Boston that wasn’t hot. One time in the 70’s at the Music Hall or Orpheum Theater we saw a Lynyrd Skynyrd/Outlaws show that was so hot we were drenched with sweat when we left. But I do remember the two bands were on stage for the encore and played “Free Bird” for 5 1/2 hours. Anyway, looking forward to January’s show. Hope more people post about this show. :-D
